„Serpentes“ ist eine Fotoserie die, inspiriert von Reisen, Schlüsselerlebnissen und der Theorie von Marc Augé, zwischen 2011 und 2017 entstanden ist. Es geht großteils um anonyme, meist urbane Orte und um den unmöglichen Versuch, sich diese als persönliche Orte anzueignen.  Ausschlaggebend war es auch, mit einer Sehnsucht zu arbeiten, die sich beim Fotografieren durch das ständige „durch den Sucher blicken“ oder „etwas suchen und finden, oder auch nicht“ manifestiert. Auch der begleitende lyrische Text von dem österreichischen Schriftsteller Thomas Ballhausen beinhaltet eine verzweifelte Suche, die am Ende in einem „auf sich selbst zurückgeworfen sein“ schließt. Die Farbfotografien sind mit unterschiedlichen Kameras entstanden, von der analogen Mittelformatkamera bis zum Handy.

: Serpentes is a series of photographs, I did between 2011 and 2017 while travelling and during personal memorable events, photographed with different tools. For example a smart phone, a digital camera or a middle format analogue camera in Linz, Vienna, Prague, Paris, Amsterdam, New York or Freistadt. Every single photograph reminds me of specific people influenced my life and, of course a place. Somewhere it was a exciting meeting, a happy moment, or deep grief. Places and rooms which are attached to myself, like supporters for memories.

Inspired by Marc Augés Non-Places and Aby M. Warburgs Mnemosyne-Atlas I brought together a convolute of Photographs, positioned between dreary “ loneliness and similarity” and places with meaningful content. It is about anonymous, mostly urban, functional and artificially created places, and the trial to acquire these places as something personal.

A longing for something is driving me to that trial, something to be confronted with again and again in photography: a constantly “searching through the viewfinder” and a restless desire to satisfy this search. In the case of this project, I stayed literally lingering in this search.

“Searching” is as well the topic of the supporting lyrical text by Austrian author Thomas Ballhausen. One that ends up being "thrown back on oneself". He is also responsible for the title Serpentes – a synonym for something meandering and a cryptically reference on a serially way of doing photography.
